Pain and Gender: A Seminar on Neuroscience, Culture, and Emotions

On Saturday, March 15, an engaging and well-attended event took place at the Ethica Center in Fano: the seminar entitled “Pain as a Gender Experience: Between Resilience and Cultural Inequality.”

The seminar, promoted by U.P. Ethica with the patronage of the Marche Region Commission for Equal Opportunities between Men and Women and the Order of Psychologists of the Marche Region, offered an important opportunity for discussion on a complex and timely topic.

How do we perceive pain? Does it depend solely on biology or also on culture and social context? These are some of the questions at the heart of the debate, addressed thanks to contributions from experts from various fields of knowledge.

•Dr. Leonardo Badioli, a Neuropsychiatrist, illustrated how neurophysiological differences between men and women influence the perception and management of pain.

•Professor Venanzio Raspa, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Urbino, offered a reflection on the relationship between pain, body, and identity, exploring the profound meaning of this experience.

•Dr. Sammy Marcantognini, Psychologist and Psychotherapist, analyzed the impact of gender differences on resilience and the psychological strategies adopted to cope with suffering.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of feedback, which saw the active participation of the audience, with questions and personal reflections, confirming the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to understanding pain in all its complexity.

This event left its mark, stimulating new perspectives on a topic that concerns everyone.
